How I Can Help Your Infant’s Sleep

Watching your baby grow into an infant is a wonderful time. As they quickly develop and pass through this stage of their young lives, their personality begins to emerge and it’s a lot of fun for the whole family. However, it also presents new challenges as your little one’s body is changing quickly – as are their sleeping needs and habits.

Unlike newborns, infants aren’t sleeping as deeply all the time, and they can come to rely too heavily upon parents’ assistance to fall asleep. And when these habits begin to form, they can be really hard to change! It’s a parent’s natural inclination to soothe and protect their upset little ones, even as regular feeding around sleeptime can create more long-term issues.

It can be hard to know the right course of action when you find yourself in this situation, which is why it’s so beneficial to work with a professional sleep consultant. I can help you understand the importance of good sleep, how to manage your baby’s unique personality, let you know what to expect as you start to straighten their habits out, and develop a step-by-step plan that shows you exactly how to get your infant sleeping soundly and independently the whole night through.

The Importance of Good Sleep for Your Infant

When your little one isn’t sleeping well, the greatest concern is usually the immediate effects. You aren’t sleeping, they aren’t sleeping, there’s tension in the household, and moods are running sour. It can be really difficult for the whole family. Trust me, I’ve been there!

However, of equal importance is the significance of good sleep for your child’s growth and development. Good sleeping habits have been linked to a number of developmental factors, including their physical and psychological health. Babies who struggle with their sleep tend to struggle more with their weight later in life, develop diseases more frequently (like diabetes), and can struggle with attention deficit disorders.

So, beyond the need for fixing your immediate problem, it’s also incredibly important that we stay focused on the long-term effects this has on your child. It’s one of the biggest reasons behind why I work as a sleep consultant, and I’m sure it’s one of the reasons you’re concerned about your baby’s troubles with sleeping.
